...and our season comes to an end.
Looking back it seems everything just got better as we went along. We went from grass to turf. We went from not knowing each other to becoming best friends. We went to Salt Spring Island by boat and Sooke by windy road. But we ended it all back at our home park playing some of the best soccer we played all season. The only thing missing today was Nina and Sydney and it would have been the "perfect season".
It's difficult to sum up this year's season in a paragraph or two. It really was a special seven months of soccer which ended in a fantastic four games this weekend. We may have come-up short in the final against New Westminster, but you gave your best and that's all any coach can ask. The games against Oceanside and the final itself were probably the most intense games we played all year. You showed great character and skill playing the way you did and I know you made your parents very proud.
Special kudos go to Mara, who showed again this weekend why she must surely be the best U11 girls player in the Lower Island. I know her parents wont be happy for me to single her out, but I think she deserves it and I suspect most parents will concur. Well done Mara!
Everyone excelled this season and while some may not have scored as many goals or made as many saves or last ditch tackles, each and every one of you improved your standard of play over the course of the season. This has a great deal to do with your dedication as individuals and as a team, both in practices and games. You kept Doug and I on our toes at times, and some of you improved despite yourself, but you also gave us plenty of laughs and good memories. I hope you and your parents had as much fun as we did!
I hope the friendships you made this season last you a lifetime.
Take care Chaos and we'll see you all on a soccer field real soon.
